How Long Does It Take To Find Out Your Pregnant

I work as a health advisor in a mother and baby clinic here in the UK. I've been here for just over 3 years and one of the most common questions I get asked (almost daily) is how long does it take to find out your pregnant? Since it seems to be a question I answer a lot in real life I will share some insights with readers online who are desperate to find out if they are pregnant.

Before I attempt to answer the question how long does it take to find out your pregnant, I will first discuss the early warning signs. If you're sexually active, or trying for a baby, and have any of the symptoms below it's possible you could be pregnant.

Signs of early pregnancy

For some women the signs of pregnancy can come on within a few days to a week. Some of the symptoms women can have during the early stages of pregnancy are:

• Bleeding, or spots of blood. This is because the embryo embeds itself into the wall of the uterus, which is also called the womb. This can cause very light bleeding.
• Nausea and sickness can be a symptom of pregnancy very early on, and it's not uncommon for this to occur days after conception.

Telltale signs of pregnancy

Some women do not display early signs of pregnancy, but the most common symptoms to look out for within the first month of conceiving are:

• Missed period
• Tender breasts
• Increased sense of smell
• Craving for certain foods
• Mood swings
• Morning sickness
• Fatigue

The above list is not an exhaustive list, but they are the most common symptoms of pregnancy that most women experience within the first 4 to 8 weeks. A missed period is usually a strong indicator that a person could be pregnant.

Now to answer the important question how long does it take to find out your pregnant?

You will find if your pregnant within the first 2 months. Symptoms may appear after the first couple of days, or you may have to wait for your missed period. The missed period could be the next time you're due on, or occasionally it will be the month after. In rare cases some women do not display any symptoms of pregnancy and continue to have periods whilst pregnant, but most women find out they are pregnant during the 2nd and 3rd months.
